Since, I have several buyers who have recently have gotten contracts accepted to buy their dream homes, I thought it was good timing to
write a quick blog about home inspectors and inspections. Almost all REALTORS® (99%) recommend a home buyer to have a home inspection; as a good qualified home inspector is crucial to the home buying process.
There are lots of ways to find a good home inspector in Colorado Springs, and referrals are one of the best ways. Or you can look online, or check the local phone book. But regardless of which way you choose, here’s a list of potential questions you should ask before you hire the inspector:
- What are your qualifications? How long have you been in the business?
- What organizations do you belong to? Do you belong to the Better Business Bureau in Colorado Springs? (see previous article: Don’t forget about the Better Business Bureau)

I’m always on the lookout for new web sites that I can forward on to my Colorado home owners, and at the suggestion of Justin Smith, I checked out a site
for US Inspect, which seems to be comprehensive resource on home inspections, by US Inspect . I read through a couple of the articles, and I especially liked the one on GFI’s; as this seems to come up in almost every inspection I attend. It was nice to see a comprehensive easy to understand blog on the topic.
One of the other things I really like about the site is the Basic Component and Systems of the Home Section. As an example, I loved the detailed description is had about Septic Systems, complete with pictures, links to Septic Terms, types of systems, and care of the system.
I also really liked the Radon Article, as it expands on some of the Radon articles I’ve posted on my blog site.
Go check it out, let me know what you think about the site. It seems like a good resource.

Home inspectors are a crucial part of providing information to buyers so they can make an informed decision on the
property they are trying to purchase. I was looking for the business cards of a couple of inspectors I’ve used the the past, and I remembered they were both members of ASHI, American Society of Home Inspectors and all of their contact information was on ASHI’s web page.
ASHI’s web site is full of information for consumers; links to consumer protection articles including articles about mold, septic information, aluminum wiring, FAQ’s on inspections, and you can search for inspectors in a specific area.
