One of the top reasons people love living in the Pikes Peak Region is because of the open spaces and mountains. It’s paradise for a nature lover!
If you’ve recently moved to the area, and want to learn about what grows well in the high arid climate of the Pikes Peak region, this is a perfect place for you to visit. It’s one of the hidden gems of the city.
The gardens are located in Monument Valley Park managed by the Horticultural Art Society Garden and they are located at the corner of Cache la Poudre and Mesa Aves., close to downtown Colorado Springs and the Old North End Neighborhood.
The gardens include a wonderful statue called “The Caretaker”.
There is also a small garden plot, in the Demonstration Garden area, which has been set aside to grow heirloom vegetables. There are plaques throughout the area that talk about the history of different vegetables including garlic, broccoli, and lettuce. Heirloom vegetables are classified as vegetables open pollinated that are over 50 years old. The new plant will look exactly like it’s parent. The area is meant to be instructional.
The garden has meandering trails and it’s a wonderful place to relax. Bring a snack and your camera; sit on one of the park benches and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Enjoy one of the Hidden Gems in Colorado Springs!
