The Old Colorado City Neighborhood  was incorporated in the 1850’s (and was originally called Colorado City); the older homes we see today where built starting around 1890 as the original buildings were mostly shacks.  Residents and visitors alike love to walk the streets of  Old Colorado City and enjoy its many delightful restaurants, shops, and art galleries.

Love bar-b-q?  Love live music?  Then come to the Front Range Barbecue located at 2330 W. Colorado in Old Colorado City.

This delightful, locally owned place opened in 2000 and is owned by brothers, Brian and Steve Fortinberry.  The restaurant was originally a family home built around 1928.  Brian even stated that some of the original family members still come back to enjoy his wonderful southern cooking.

And well they should.  You’ll find delicious home-cooked barbecue with three sauces to choose from…original tangy (my favorite), sweet n spicy and a mustard wine sauce.  The place is best known for its pulled pork and tender-smoked ribs but in recent years have added burgers (I love the buffalo), brisket, chicken and sausage.  They even have a vegetarian selection.

You’ll also be able to choose from 8 different home-made side dishes (yummy potato salad) which are definitely made in the southern Alabama tradition.  Brian said his family taught him well.  If none of those appeal to you, fries are also available (try the cheese fries).  You’d better save room for dessert where they’re all made from scratch (try the pecan pie…oh my!).

There’s also a full service bar and in the summer enjoy the live music played on the patio.  They have both local musicians and even national touring bands.  You’ll find mostly blues and bluegrass with a smattering of zydeco, country and folk.  Its fun to be in a small intimate setting and the bands seem to enjoy it as much as the guests.  But, get there early as it is a small patio and fills up fast.

Check out their website at www.frbbq.comto see who’s coming and when.  Front Range Barbecue is opened daily for lunch and dinner. Meals range from about $8-$22.
